Arilbred
The arilbreds go back to crossing aril irises with "common" garden irises. The background of these breeds is to combine the special characteristics of both sections. The flower characteristics of the arils (strong veining, dark basal spot on the hanging leaves) are special, but these plants are difficult to cultivate in our latitudes. That is why they are crossed with the less demanding garden irises with the aim of obtaining an aril flower on a hardy garden iris. The abbreviation for Arilbreds is AB.
